The teachers’ unions finalize the details of new mobilizationsafter the 5 days of strike in March, so that the Department of Education attend to their claims. This Monday they planted to the ‘conselleria’ at the meeting of the sector table and in the afternoon they went to the auditorium of the University of Barcelona (UB), where the presentation of the report ‘Nous aprenentatges, nous espais’ was to take place, and they boycotted the act.
The event at the UB was supposed to start at 6:30 p.m. but a group of union leaders burst into the room with shouts of “Chambray, resignation.” And so they have been for a long time, refusing to leave, until Educació has decided to suspend the presentation.
The ‘conseller’, Josep González-Cambray, who had to intervene, waited a few minutes, and even tried to say something, but then decided to leave and finally the entire act, in which the Bofill Foundation and the College of Architects of Catalonia also participated, was suspended. “And we will continue like this. In all the acts that I do, we will be there”, union sources present in the auditorium of the UB have warned.
As union sources have explained to this newspaper, the new sit-in at the sectoral table is due to the fact that “there has been no significant progress” in the talks with the ‘ministry’. Both parties met on Friday for a first contact after the Easter break but the teachers did not appreciate any progress, so they maintain their mobilization plan, which they will announce in the next few hours.
