T-MEC offers advantages in exports for Pueblan SMEs: Canacintra

Puebla, Pue. The Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), with new conditions, offers advantages to small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in regional competitiveness, certainty, economic opportunities and information technologies, commented Xavier Jara Castillejos, local president of the sector of consulting and services companies of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra).

He stressed that they are seeking to open a market for companies from Puebla in the United States with the aim of achieving the placement of products, especially agricultural ones.

He pointed out that the treaty “undoubtedly represents a break for Puebla in exports, therefore the accompaniment to those interested in crossing the northern border.”

Although local exports fell drastically during the covid-19 pandemicwhich were 46% less, with the treaty it is expected to recover half of that percentage.

He explained that the T-MEC will represent opportunities for the poblano productive sectorin addition to supporting SMEs in global value chains.

However, he considered that export levels will recover next year and it is difficult for it to be sooner, but they will not stop providing support to partners.

Jara Castillejos stressed that Texas is a good distribution channelsince it offers a range of possibilities for exporting, since Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston are strategic places and they look for products –food and beverages– that are similar to those in their area.

He projected that at least one of the four cities can be completed, and that this will have a domino effect, although it will take time along with continuing to search for other markets.

“In Texas, there are restaurants from Puebla that need a supply chain, which is why we believe that it can be consolidated despite the pandemic environment and that it will force those interested in exporting, as well as holding business meetings virtually, forcing them to be more accurate in the information of what they sell”, he deepened.

To the call to supply that market, he said that 80% of the interested parties are from the agricultural sector, who sent the productive technical sheets, highlighting Tehuacán and Huejotzingo, because they produce in greenhouses.
