Switzerland projects greater investment in the automotive sector of Querétaro


Queretaro, Qro. An automotive company of Swiss origin is preparing its installation in the state, where it is currently analyzing two location possibilities, explained the representative of the Swiss-Mexican Chamber of Commerce and Industry (swisscham) in the Bajío, Valentin Pfyffer.

In a first stage, the firm estimates to employ 200 people; anticipating that within three months the first stone of the plant will be placed.

“There is a new investment that is going to be made in a nearby park (…) In the state of Querétaro (this new investment will be made). It is an automotive company that is going to generate about 200 jobs as in the first part, ”he explained.

This is one of the investment plans that foresee swiss companies in Querétaro, referred Pfyffer explaining that 2022 is seen as the year of recovery, which will increase the mood to invest. Therefore, Swiss companies installed in the state are preparing plans to increase their operating capacities in the entity.

From here, from Querétaro, there are many companies that bring expansion plans, like some that are already materializing these plans, we hope that investment will continue to grow, more so in 2022, which is the year of recovery,” he explained.

After two complex years to materialize new investment projects, it is expected that new initiatives will begin to emerge.

According to the chamber, projects related to the agri-food and chemical industry are planned in the entity. Likewise, the expansion of a Swiss plant located in the municipality of Pedro Escobedo is planned.

After the installation of the Bajío chapter of the swisschamhe explained, one of the objectives is to continue attracting investments from Swiss companies to the region and in particular to Queretaro.

“The Bajío in general has succeeded very well in attracting Swiss investment, it is the tenth country of investment in Mexico (…) Of course the idea is to attract companies, not only consolidate investment. (…) We are working with the embassy, ​​with the local and federal government, to attract new investments here”, he explained.

Nestle, he said, is one of the Swiss companies that plans to expand its operations in Mexico; This issue being one of the objectives for which a delegation from Querétaro visited its facilities in Switzerland, with the purpose of managing investments towards the state.

Meanwhile, the main concerns expressed by Swiss companies installed in the region are related to logistics chains, which have had a global disruption.

“Here in Bajío the concerns of the companies are a little different from those of Mexico City, in the capital we are in a more corporate environment, when here it is fundamentally manufacturing (…) (Their concerns in the region are focused on the) chain transport, logistics”, he explained.

The chamber has 50 member companies in the country; Of these, 20 are in the Bajío region, a figure that is expected to increase, due to the fact that 35 companies of this origin have been identified in the region.

During 2021, the four Bajío entities –Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí– captured 132.8 million dollars of foreign direct investment from Switzerlandspecifies the Ministry of Economy.

Of this regional amount, Queretaro It is the entity that received the most Swiss investment, adding 120 million dollars, 90.4% of the total investment that the region received.
