Montreal police on Friday announced that their arson squad had arrested a suspect in connection with the torching on March 3 of a van parked on a street in the borough of St-Laurent.

Ilyesse Gorfti, 27, was arrested on March 10 in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. Search warrants were executed on the suspect’s home and vehicle. Gorfti faces charges of arson and drug possession and remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
Police said their investigation is continuing to determine whether any accomplices were involved in the fire, which broke out around 2:45 am on March 3 after a van parked on Valade St. was doused with gasoline and set alight.
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
