Superior Court of Quebec: appointment of a new Chief Justice

Justice Marie-Anne Paquette has been appointed Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday.

She then replaced Judge Jacques Robert Fournier who chose to retire.

I wish the Honorable Marie-Anne Paquette much success in her new role as Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec. She brings extensive experience to this position, including more than 10 years as a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec. I am convinced that Chief Justice Paquette will continue to serve Quebecers well,” said Justin Trudeau in a press release.

Justice Paquette was appointed Chief Judge for the District of Montreal at the Superior Court in 2010, in addition to being coordinator of the Chamber of Commerce since 2020. Before becoming a judge, she held various positions, including that of assistant legal counsel to judges of the Supreme Court of Canada and the Quebec Court of Appeal.
