For the Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, this is good news. She herself says that she recently took the metro and saw “a lot of people” there.

“I invite all Montrealers to take the metro, it has always been safe, it continues to be, and it’s still the best way to get around Montreal,” she said Monday. during a press scrum.

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) revealed these figures Monday morning, as part of the launch of an advertising and awareness campaign, aimed at encouraging its customers to reconnect with public transport, after two years of pandemic.

For the metro, ridership is now at a level of 56% of what it was before the pandemic. For buses, the proportion is 61%, while it is 66% for paratransit.

“The gradual return to normal life, with the lifting of sanitary measures, combined with the rise in the cost of living and prices, constitute the opportune moment to relaunch public transit and recall its importance in facilitating travel in Montreal”, declared Éric Alan Caldwell, Chairman of the STM Board of Directors.
