The man, who has not yet been identified, was found at 8:14 pm laying on the ground with some injuries to his face.

“Police who were on their way got another call from Paramedic Services that the man had been transferred to a local trauma center and that police were not required,” said Toronto Police Insp. Roger Caracciolo.

“While at the trauma center — while they were medically treating the male — it was discovered that he had stab wounds about the torso of his body, multiple stab wounds consistent with some type of sharp object.”

Police were then recalled to the trauma center where they began their investigation.

“Throughout the evening the male’s health declined at the trauma center and unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries,” said Insp. Caracciolo.

Police tweeted just after 7 am Sunday the incident was being investigated as a homicide.

On Sunday morning police had blocked traffic flow in the area where the man was found as part of their investigation.

“We believe it was a random act of violence but investigators are determining the relationship between the two people,” Insp. Caracciolo said. “There was some type of altercation on Ontario St. between the two people. During that time the victim it appears suffered the wounds to his body from him.

Investigators have not released any information about the man who died in hospital except to say he was middle-aged.

They are seeking a person of interest and also urging anyone in the area at the time with information that might help their investigation, to come forward.

“There were motor vehicles in the area at the time. We are appealing to the general public if you had a dashcam in the area,” Insp. Caracciolo said. “If you have any surveillance footage whether it be on your home or in the area, contact Toronto Police.”
