Montreal police said the incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the St-Léonard district, near the corner of Jean Talon St. and De l’Assomption Blvd.

Officers found the victim lying in a parking lot at the corner of Jean Talon and Lisieux Sts.

The victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital, but his condition was described as critical in the hours that followed. The police announced his death shortly after 7:30 am.

At least one suspect was at the scene of the shooting, but fled before police arrived. A canine unit was deployed to the site and investigators will question witnesses and check local surveillance cameras in an effort to determine the events that led to the murder.
