SRE confirms 22 Mexicans among the victims abandoned in a trailer in San Antonio


Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrardconfirmed that 22 Mexicans are part of the 50 dead found in the box of an abandoned trailer in San Antonio, Texas.

Likewise, it was confirmed that seven were Guatemalan and two Honduran.

In social networks, the foreign minister reported that Mexico joined the investigation of the tragedy coordinated by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DSH).

For his part, the consul general of Mexico in San Antonio, Ruben Minutti Zanattareported that attention to families and hospitalized people is being prioritized.

“We are touring the hospitals to attend to the families of the victims and update the corresponding information, we are here to support them and we are here to provide them with all the support of the consular network,” he said in a message.

Waiting continues to confirm the identity of the other victims.

“We are in close collaboration and coordination with our Central American colleagues for the comprehensive care of the victims and their families,” he added.

According to the first reports, the people died due to possible suffocation and dehydration.

In addition, 16 survivors, including four minors, were taken to Methodist del Centro, University, Baptiste del Centro and Santa Rosa West Overhills hospitals.

Robert Velascohead of the North American Unit of the SRE, specified that the repatriation of the bodies of the Mexican victims will be supported.
