Speeding driver dies after crashing into a tree on Vancouver’s west side

A man in his 30s died Sunday night after his vehicle hit a tree near NW Marine Drive and West 4th Avenue.

In a prepared statement, the Vancouver Police Department Const. Tania Visintin said that around 9 p.m., police received multiple 911 calls from people who had seen the man driving erratically west on West 4th Avenue.

Shortly after, the vehicle collided with a tree where West 4th Avenue curves west to the left towards UBC and NW Marine Drive begins.

Visintin said the man died at the scene, despite efforts by Vancouver Fire and Rescue Service and BC Ambulance Service personnel to revive him.

“Speed ​​was definitely a factor in this tragic incident,” Visintin said. “Our Collision Investigation Unit is investigating to determine if there were other contributing factors.”

This was the fourteenth motor vehicle death in Vancouver in 2021.
