Solsona leaves the ‘Novell case’ behind with the inauguration of Francesc Conesa as the new bishop


the one that was Bishop of Minorca, Francesc Conesa60, has taken office this Saturday as new Bishop of Solsonawith which the town of Lleida leaves behind the chapter of the controversial prelate Xavier Novellwho unexpectedly resigned in the summer of last year to marry a woman.

In the solsona cathedralthe apostolic nuncio has delivered the staff to Conesa, who has presided over the first mass as bishop of the diocese.

“Come full of illusion to continue the proclamation of Jesus Christ and I come to accompany your faith and stand by your side to walk together”, assured Conesa in his homily. “And I also come as a service plan, since I want nothing more than to be servant of your joy and proclaim the good news every day”, continued the new bishop of Solsona, who also wanted to launch a message of “reconciliation and peace” in the midst of the war in Ukraine.

After mass, the bishop has left in procession towards the Plaza Mayor, where the Eagle of Solsona, symbol of the town, has danced in his honor.

Francesc Conesa Ferrer was born in Elche on August 25, 1961 and was ordained a priest on September 29, 1985.

From 1998 to 2014 he was the vicar general of the diocese of Orihuela-Alicante.

On October 27, 2016 the Pope Francisco appointed him bishop of Menorca and in the Spanish Episcopal Conference he has been a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith since March 2017.
