Six years for a sex offender at high risk of recidivism

A 22-year-old sex offender from Saint-Apollinaire at high risk of recidivism will receive a six-year prison sentence for having harassed and lured 14 teenage girls aged 12 to 15 on the internet.

Despite his young age, Gabriel Lachance has a very disturbing criminal history in terms of luring and harassment. From 2017, the young man who had just passed into adulthood was the subject of a denunciation by several plaintiffs.

In total, 14 teenage girls were victims of Gabriel Lachance who lured them by communicating directly with them on social media. The defendant quickly admitted to sending images of him masturbating or requesting explicit images of his victims under threat.

Psychiatric expertise

Lawyers for the prosecution and defense have agreed that a six-year sentence be imposed on the 22-year-old defendant. Sentence which should be ratified by Judge Alain Moran.

But faced with the repetitive behavior of the accused, a psychiatric expertise had been requested. The Dr Louis Morrissette therefore met Gabriel Lachance and established that he was in the 99and percentile of people at risk of recidivism.

“When we talk about the fact that there is just one in 100 who rates higher than him, it is very, very worrying,” argued prosecutor Laura Plamondon-Dufour.

For this reason, and given that the young accused has not started any journey since his incarceration three years ago, Mr.and Plamondon-Dufour asks that the accused be subject to a long-term supervision order for 10 years against six years for the defense.

Judge Moran will take the decision under advisement.
