Simulation technology improves productivity in companies

Guadalajara, Jalisco. The implementation of technological simulation systems has allowed companies from different sectors to improve their productivity and, in some cases, overcome the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Once the confinement began due to the health crisis, the Jalisco company in the food sector green valley increased its demand for bagged rice and beans by 160% and the way to adapt to the new requirements with the same infrastructure was through simulation, said Andrés Cornejo, head of the company’s Production Engineering area.

He explained that, during the first few months of the pandemic, which were atypical, Verde Valle implemented the FlexSim process simulator, which allowed them to increase productivity by 15% in the manufacturing area and 30% in the storage area and address the increase in the demand for its grains, since its production rose to 40,000 tons per year with the same infrastructure.

“The main contribution is the anticipated errors to be able to optimize resources,” said Cornejo, who explained that they carried out the 3D simulation of the entire operation within the company and with it, “the errors were corrected within a technology system and no with real resources.

Andrés Cornejo shared that his production line focused on cleaning and packaging increased its capacity by almost 20% just by implementing a magnetic roller when, in regular practice, that result would have cost close to 20 million pesos by investing in a new line of production.

According to the manager, the three-dimensional simulation system “has become a crucial decision-making tool for Verde Valle… For us it has been substantial in terms of investments, it helps avoid mistakes, it has helped us improve productivity and has brought us many benefits”.
