Sheinbaum rules out closure of activities in Mexico City

Despite the progress of the Ómicron variant in Mexico City, where the number of confirmed cases has increased, the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, ruled out that activities will be closed in the holiday season.

“There will be no suspension of activities and as always, we will be very responsible, in case we see an increase in infections, hospitalizations, we will give all the guidelines to the population,” he said at a press conference.

Among the reasons why there are no closings of economic units and the programming of Christmas activities remains in place, he assured, is that the population of 18 years and over in the capital is already vaccinated.

At the same time, he said that a strategy is being applied to reinforce immunization against the new variant of the coronavirus, which consists of applying a third dose of the antidotes.

“What is the strategy that has been followed? Advance in the third dose of vaccine, particularly for older adults, for adults aged 60 and over, which is precisely the most vulnerable population, and we will continue to advance in the booster or third vaccine with other sectors of the population, as we go orient the government of Mexico, “he said.

“So, the city already has a very high percentage of municipalities that have already been vaccinated with their third dose and we are going to continue in that process. It has been shown that this third dose also helps to prevent the disease from being less serious in the event of a contagion, ”added the president.

Sheinbaum Pardo pointed out that there is currently no indicator in the city that warns that infections are increasing.

“No indicator, nor hospitalizations, inclusive, nor deaths; there is no indicator that alerts us ”, he deepened.
