Severe thunderstorm warning for Toronto, Environment Canada says


Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the city of Toronto and surrounding areas on Saturday afternoon.

“Meteorologists are tracking a very dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing destructive wind likes and up to toonie-sized hail,” the alert said.

Some people also received alerts to the cellphones.

The weather agency is warning of winds gusting to 130 km/h, nickel- to toonie-sized hail and the risk of tornadoes.

“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” the agency said.

Locations impacted include: Hamilton, Toronto, Milton, Burlington, Brampton, Oakville, Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Erin, Halton Hills, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown, Caledon, King City, Aurora, Downtown Toronto and Rockwood.
