Severe Storm Watch Issued for Multiple Regions in Northern Ontario – Barrie | The Canadian News

TORONTO – Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings for several regions in northern Ontario for Sunday.

The agency says six regions are under severe thunderstorm watch, including the city of Thunder Bay.

In the affected regions, the meteorological agency says conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong gusts of wind of up to 80 kilometers per hour, hail and heavy rains.

It says strong gusts of wind can throw loose objects, damage weak buildings, break tree limbs, and tip large vehicles over.

It says severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water buildup on roads.

The agency has also issued rain advisories of up to six centimeters for some regions of northern Ontario.
