In October 2018, Selma Blair announced to her fans that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a debilitating and incurable neurological condition in which the immune system corrodes the protective covering of the nerves.

The new documentary “Introducing, Selma Blair” details the American actress’ journey with the disease and follows her as she undergoes stem cell treatment.

The film shows Blair in his crudest state, exhausted from chemotherapy and consumed by his condition. Director Rachel Fleit said the crew fixed Blair’s symptoms.

“I was very aware that my subject wasn’t feeling well either, you know, so we wouldn’t do 12-hour shifts, we would have these short periods of time together.

“He would let us know when it was time to go, but regardless of the state, the crew was there, Selma was available and open and willing to film, which was amazing,” she said.

Blair had advice for people who had recently been diagnosed with the condition.

“Don’t just say, ‘Oh, it’s not happening,’ but be patient. This took a while to build this nervous system in you. It may not go away overnight, but there are disease modifiers … Patience and don’t worry. This is your body sadly giving you the gift of telling you ‘slower’. “

“Introducing, Selma Blair” is currently in a limited theatrical release and will air on Discovery + on Thursday.
