Querétaro, Qro. During December, Queretaro could lose between 8,000 and 10,000 formal jobs, due to seasonality factors, projected the Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu), Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero.
With this projection, it is estimated that the state will end the year with approximately 34,000 jobs created, a figure with which it resumes the pre-pandemic trend of incorporating about 30,000 jobs per year.
“Traditionally every December the number of jobs decreases, we estimate that between 8,000 and 10,000 jobs may be lost due to seasonality, we will be ending in approximately 34,000 jobs,” he said.
Only in November, he stated, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported 5,346 new jobs for the state, a cumulative 43,936 jobs from January to November.
“Querétaro has remained an entity that generates formal jobs in an important way (…) It is the third national in growth of formal employment and it is worth emphasizing that we are one of the few states that already recovered the jobs that were had prior to the pandemic, “he declared.
According to the state secretary, these indicators are positive, after recovering the jobs that were dropped in the first months of the health contingency due to the pandemic of Covid-19.
“The important decline (in job losses) was in the months of March, April and May, still in June 2020 and we see that we are already above where we were in January 2020, so this is an important figure. In Querétaro, the jobs that we had lost during the pandemic have already recovered and not only that, but additional jobs have already been generated, “he said.
Prior to this period, in December 2020 the state lost 8,116 jobs, a figure close to the projection of casualties estimated for this year.
Of the total jobs that were added in 2021, the majority are permanent, representing 42,842 (97.5%), the temporary jobs incorporated totaled 1,094 (2.5%) from January to November.
Unemployment rate
In this context, the state secretary stated that the rate of monthly unemployment of the state is usually around 5%, equivalent to about 50,000 people who are unemployed.
Because the state is usually among the highest unemployment rates in the country, he said that this indicator is a reflection of the economic and labor dynamism that occurs in the state.
“If to point out that a high unemployment rate is not another symbol more than a very specific economic dynamism and important employment because it means that people are looking for better employment options,” he commented.
According to the state secretary, the level of unemployment is a factor to attract companies to the state, since they will find available personnel, he said.
