Triston Colombaris Brown, 29, a resident of the St-Laurent district, appeared via videoconference before Quebec court judge Linda Despots in the Montreal court. He faces three charges in total.

He was charged with manslaughter for the death of Mathieu Sya Tawan Gouin, a 23-year-old man who was killed on September 18. He was also charged with assaulting a second person who was injured during the same altercation.

The Crown opposed his release and his case was moved to Monday.

According to Montreal police, on September 18 at around 1:40 a.m., a group of friends in their 20s passed another group of people at the intersection of Sherbrooke and Mansfield Sts.

An argument broke out and it turned violent. Gouin “was hit by a sharp object and shortly after was pronounced dead at the hospital,” police said. “A second victim was seriously injured in the altercation and required surgery. His life is no longer in danger ”.

Michael Tortolano, 18, of Châteauguay, was charged with second-degree murder in Gouin’s death on Thursday.
