City police have filed a second-degree murder charge for the fatal stabbing of a man in downtown Edmonton.

On September 18, shortly after 6 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon in the area of ​​104 Avenue and 95 Street.

When the police arrived, they located a man with serious injuries.

Officers provided first aid to the man, but he died at the scene, police said.

An autopsy determined that 27-year-old Eugene Brian Patrick Louis died as a result of a stab wound.

Jorge James McConnell, 33, has been charged with second degree murder in connection with Louis’s death.

Louis’s death is the city’s 27th homicide in 2021.
