Searching for a ‘professional pickpocket’ that has gone viral

A singer from Montreal becomes an investigator and seeks the public’s help to find the pickpocket who stole her cards and her cell phone in which she records her precious songs.

“Seeing the videos of him robbing me made me think oh my god. I didn’t notice anything. How did he do? He was so close to me. It’s traumatic, ”says Nicole Arrage, 27.

Last Monday, she had her iPhone, worth $1,600, and all her credit cards stolen from the Café DAX in the Outremont borough. Since then, the young woman has been on a mission to unmask this thief.

In particular, she recovered the video tapes from commercial surveillance cameras, then broadcast the sequence of her theft on social networks. The video has since gone viral.

Flight in 5 min

“In five minutes he managed to rob me while I was talking with my friend in the cafe. We see that he is a pro who knows what he is doing. I was quite in shock, ”insists the singer.

“But above all I want to find my phone which has my recordings with my songs in it,” she adds.

In the images, we see the pickpocket ordering a coffee first. He then sits next to the young woman, taking great care to move his chair back to get closer to her. At some point, he seems to be looking for an object in his coat. However, through other camera angles of the cafe, we see that the man inserts his hand into Nicole Arrage’s coat.

“He managed to open the button of my closed pocket. I did not hear anything. He took all my cards and my cell without me noticing anything. It’s crazy, I still can’t believe it. He is clearly a regular,” she denounces.

The Montrealer says to the Log that she also filed a complaint with the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) to find the pickpocket.

But to increase her chances of recovering her stolen belongings, she relied on the power of social media to find him. Interestingly, the video of the malefactor that she posted on Tik Tok had over 6.8 million views as of Friday afternoon.

“Montreal is still a small city. I’m sure someone will recognize him and at least tell me his name,” said Ms. Arrage.

Contacted on this subject, Darren Johnston, owner of Café DAX, maintains that this is unheard of in his business and that he did not hesitate to give him the videos.

“I served him. He was very polite and knew what he was doing. We really hope that we will find him, ”concludes Mr. Johnston.
