Santi MinaCelta footballer, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a crime of sexual abuse against a young woman in the Almería municipality of Mojácar in June 2017. The magistrates of the third section of the Provincial Court of Almería have acquitted him, however, of the crime of sexual assault, as requested by the Prosecutor’s Office and the private prosecution, considering that he did not act with violence or intimidation.
Exceltic David Goldar has also been acquittedaccused in the same case as a necessary cooperator.
Likewise, the court has imposed on Mina -who will appeal the sentence- compensation of 50,000 euros and a 12-year ban on approaching less than 500 meters from the victim as well as communicating with her.
The trial was seen for sentencing on April 1 after the Public Ministry made its conclusions final and interested in the sentence of eight years in prison, estimating that there was “an accumulation, a cascade” of “evidence” which proved that the Celta de Vigo footballer had committed a sexual assault.
For its part, the defense argued that it had been proved that the complainant “lent her consent at all times” since when “she asked him to stop, he stopped as she herself confirmed” during her statement in the courtroom and argued that, in any case, there was an invincible error because, according to the lawyer, “if there was no consent , of course he didn’t know until he verbalized it”.
The private prosecution also upheld its petitions and requested that Mina and Goldar be sentenced, in this case as a necessary cooperator, of nine years and six months from jail
Celta separates the footballer
The Celta has communicated this Wednesday that it will separate Santi Mina of the training of the first team after coming to light the sentence that condemns the player to four years in prison for sexual abuse. In addition, from A Sede they communicate their decision to open “a disciplinary file” to the striker to “clarify his work responsibilities in view of the resolution.”
In the announcement, the entity from Vigo emphasizes that “In a precautionary manner”, Santi Mina will be removed “provisionally” of training, “without prejudice to continuing to carry out the activities indicated by the club for this purpose”.
