Sader projects a 17% increase in sugar production; guarantees national supply

Therefore, Mexico has sufficient availability of sugar to supply the domestic market and meet its commitments to export the surplus, particularly to USAthe main destination of outside sales of our country.

It should be noted that each year the United States authorizes a quota for the export of surplus sugar from Mexico, on this occasion an export quota of 887,843 tons was assigned, but it may be subject to the granting of additional quotas.

In the event that all the surplus cannot be exported to USAsince in Mexico 4 million sugars are consumed, the rest is sent to the international market.

In the 2020-2021 harvest, sugar production was 5,700,000 tons; and in the corresponding to 2019-2022, it was 5.2 million tons.

The head of Agriculture stressed that thanks to the commitment and work of sugar mills and cane producers, our country has had important harvests in recent years, around six million tons per year.

Sector reports estimate that in the 2020-2021 harvest, the sugarcane agribusiness represents 0.50% of the Gross domestic product (GDP) national; contribute 3.01% of the manufacturing industryparticipates with 16.74% of the GDP of the food industry and with 6.21% of the agricultural GDP.

The 2021-2022 harvest will conclude on June 30 in Tabasco

According to National Committee for the Sustainable Development of Sugar Cane (Conadesuca), in 49 mills that carried out milling activities in the current harvest, 50 million 76,313 tons of cane have been harvested, equivalent to 99% compliance compared to Third Production Estimate of the current harvest.
