Rogers reportedly offers some customers 5GB of free data

Rogers is reportedly offering select customers up to 5GB of free data per text message.

According to a report by iPhone in Canada, an Ontario resident with an ‘EPP’ employee plan received a message from Rogers saying that the carrier had a “surprise” for them. The message went on to explain that the operator added 5GB of data to the customer’s account.

In addition, the additional free data would appear every month for the next 24 months. Rogers claims there were no strings attached, there were no additional charges, and no further action was required.

While the change may be related to the customer’s employee plan, there was reportedly no indication in the message that it was. Additionally, Rogers and its flanker brand Fido have previously offered customers free data via text message, so the operator is probably doing it again.

If you are a Rogers customer, you may want to check your text messages or consider such offers. Fido customers may also want to keep an eye out for incoming messages about bonus data. Although 5GB of data may not sound like a lot, I would take it as a gift.

Of course your mileage will vary with something like this. And unfortunately, if you don’t get the message from Rogers, I’d say that you probably won’t have much luck getting data by calling the operator. However, if you don’t have a contract, you can always look for good deals; Sometimes if you change, your old provider will contact you with a recovery offer worth taking up.
