The timeline means the 20-time grand slam winner would miss Wimbledon in June but potentially be ready for the start of the US Open on Aug. 29.

The 40-year-old Swiss star provided an update on his lengthy rehabilitation to Swiss broadcaster SRF on Saturday while attending a women’s World Cup skiing competition.

Federer hasn’t played since July 7, when he lost in straight sets to Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. The following month, he announced he would undergo a third surgery on his right knee and would be sidelined “many months.”

Federer and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic are tied for a second on the all-time list behind Rafael Nadal, who won his 21st grand slam singles title earlier this year at the Australian Open.
