Rink on Wascana officially opens in Regina – Regina | The Canadian News

An official opening of a new skating rink located at the Legislative Landing in Regina was announced on Thursday.

The Provincial Capital Commission (PCC) has launched the opening of the Rink on Wascana, a full-size outdoor track, now open to public skating with professional boards, lighting, laundry and heating facilities.

“The PCC is committed to promoting health and wellness throughout all four seasons, and Wascana Center provides the perfect natural environment for the addition of a regulation-sized NHL track that is open to the public,” said Minister Responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission said. McMorris in a press release.

“This new modern facility will give visitors the opportunity to stay active this winter and enjoy some outdoor family entertainment on our own legislative site.”

PCC, which has invested $ 200,000 for the facility, said the Rink on Wascana will serve all users with a focus on reducing barriers – designed with accessibility in mind. The skating rink focuses on skating with hockey and related equipment that is only allowed for special occasions.

The track will be available for use seven days a week from 11:00 to 21:00 and will remain open until the end of February. All unique programs, lessons and special events at the Rink at Wascana will also be free to the public.

The PCC states that they will continue to follow current Public Health Orders and masking will be required in laundry and heating facilities. PCC will ensure that all ice access is safe by maintaining and caring for the ice rink, conducting snow removal and periodic ice thickness testing.

The facility will also be part of the city’s first FROST Regina Festival which takes place 4 -13 February 2022.
