Revocation: participate or lose by default

Finally, López Obrador got his way and on April 10 the consultation will be held for what should be a Revocation of Mandate and will end up being a public demonstration of support for the president.

It must be remembered that the approval to include in the Constitution the figure of the Revocation of Mandate and the question that is finally going to be asked was endorsed by the opposition, so it is not worth complaining when at the time they did not have the vision to foresee what was going to happen.

López Obrador gave the opposition a four and it fell flat. The president knew from the beginning that he and Morena were going to call the consultation not for its revocation, but for its ratification. The president has no way of losing in the referendum given on the one hand the ability to move his people to vote and on the other because he has 65% popular support, it is more in the polls that have been done more than 70 % would vote for ratification.

Faced with this reality, the opposition is in the dilemma of calling to participate or not in the consultation, since either of the two scenarios is negative for it. If he calls to participate, he is endorsing a farce, if he does not, he will lose by default since almost unanimous support will be expressed in favor of the president. It doesn’t matter if 40% participation is achieved or not, the referendum will make clear a very broad support in favor of the president and his government.

I am one of those who thinks that it is necessary to participate and take advantage of the space to try to open people’s eyes so that they realize how badly the government is doing and the serious mistakes that the president has made in these three years, which they compromise the future of the country and especially of young people.

With the pretext of the consultation, a great information campaign is justified to the population of the serious economic problem we face, unemployment, the increase in poverty, the failure in security and in the health and education system.

Not participating is leaving the entire field open to the president and the government to strengthen their image with a view to the 2024 elections. If they do not participate, it will seem that the opposition does not exist and that the only truth that exists is that of the government. Once again the opposition will have lost the opportunity to connect with the population.

The consultation is well seen by most people and is one more “bread and circuses” strategy that we have seen during these three years. For the people it is a party in which their opinion is being asked and beyond the fact that it is an unnecessary and costly farce it is not rejected by the majority of the population.

We must accept that the president got away with it and make the consultation our own to gain space for the government and inform the people, the next opportunity to do so will be until the 2024 elections and we will have lost three years to disqualify and weaken the president and to the government.

That the result does not matter to us, if we participate it will be less unbalanced, but if we lose by default the result will be much more bulky against us.
