“We had families. I had a lot of groups of seven people,” rejoiced Martin Maximilien, manager of the restaurant Rétro 50, in Rimouski.

Customers were there, even though the Bas-Saint-Laurent region is plagued with outbreaks of COVID-19. Restaurants claim to have seen their turnover jump by 35 to 40%.

“With the COVID, which we hope will go away, our customers were present, and still today [durant le lundi de Pâques]“Commented the owner of the Café des Halles, Guylaine Sirois.

However, the threat of the virus still hangs over the heads of many. “We are still a little scared, but we hope that everything will go back to normal, the good weather is coming, we will be able to open the terrace,” added Ms. Sirois.

Employees still wanted

However, a major challenge awaits restaurateurs: that of recruiting labour.

“We are expecting a big summer. I hope that the students will be available”, mentioned Mr. Maximilien.

“It’s been two years that I would have liked to open for dinners, except that I have a number of people in my kitchen that does not derogate, and I do not have enough people,” said Ms. Sirois.

The seduction operation has therefore officially begun in view of the summer season.
