Repatriate 15 bodies of migrants who died in Chiapas

The federal government announced that 15 bodies of people of Guatemalan origin who died were repatriated after the incident in Chiapas on December 9, where more than 50 migrants lost their lives and a hundred more were injured after the overturning of a trailer that transported them illegally crowded.

“The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Guatemala City in a Casa C-295 plane of the Mexican Air Force and handed over to officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country,” reported the Ministry of the Interior (Segob).

In a statement, the federal agency added that “the forensic authorities of the FGR (Attorney General’s Office) have managed to date, and with the support of the governments of the countries of origin of the deceased, the identification of 50 people who died in the accident (37 from Guatemala, 11 from the Dominican Republic, one from El Salvador and one from Ecuador) ”.

In turn, Segob indicated that a total of 30 bodies of people have been repatriated.

It is worth mentioning that after the events, which went around the world, the Mexican government together with those of Guatemala, Ecuador, the United States, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, formed a group against human trafficking.

Regarding the Chiapas incident and human trafficking, the Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has reported that it is known that drug cartels have operations in this crime, however, there are other criminal organizations that have been formed and that their activity is only the illegal transfer of people who seek to reach the United States to have a better quality of life.

So far no further progress has been announced in the investigation into the tragedy in Chiapas.
