Relatives of Rosario Robles announce “peaceful civil resistance”

Relatives of the former head of Sedesol and Sedatu, Rosario Robles, announced a “peaceful civil resistance” to achieve her freedom and acquittal, considering that she is a political prisoner.

Francisco Robles and Mariana Moguel, brother and daughter of the former Secretary of State, accompanied by other relatives, offered a press conference in which they announced demonstrations starting this November 15 at the facilities of the General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR), of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) and embassy headquarters, as part of what they called “peaceful civil resistance” actions.

They also announced that for 36 hours they will remain outside National Palace, with a 10-day fast, and demonstrations in the Glorieta de la Palma on Paseo de la Reforma, to disseminate the alleged anomalies in the case of Rosario Robles, who since August 2019 remains imprisoned in the Santa Martha Acatitla Women’s Penal Center .

“As a family, we are no longer looking to change the precautionary measure, we are not looking for Rosario to continue her process in freedom at home, in house arrest. We are seeking the immediate freedom of María del Rosario Robles Berlanga and that will be one of the central aspects of our struggle, ”said Francisco Robles.

Mariana Moguel filed legal actions so that her mother’s case be taken to international courts, accusing human rights violations; the political use of the institutions of prosecution and administration of justice and their lack of autonomy, in particular from the FGR.

On October 20, a federal judge ordered to keep the former head of Sedesol and Sedatu, Rosario Robles, in prison, considering that a high risk of flight prevails.

The former Secretary of State is implicated by the Attorney General’s Office in the case called the “Master Scam”, an operation that involved the irregular signing -during her administration- of 27 agreements with public universities that caused patrimonial damage of 5,073 million pesos . Due to this situation, the prosecution requested 21 years in prison against him.

A few days later, the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador He replied that he has nothing against the former official. “I have nothing against her and it is a matter addressed by the Attorney General’s Office, I have nothing against her, I do not hate anyone, I am happy, and revenge is not my strong suit, I fight for justice ”, he asserted.
