Regina Man Slit Throat During Attempted Murder Incident, Family Says | The Canadian News

A man and his family are shaken after two complete strangers cut his throat with a knife, during a walk home from a friend’s house, according to a family member.

At 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Regina police received a report of a man with a serious neck injury in a residential area in the 1300 block of Athol St.

“His condition at first was very bad, the doctors didn’t think he would make it, but he is a fighter and he proved them wrong,” Tara Brown, the victim’s sister-in-law told Global News.

As of Monday night, Chris, the victim of the attack, remains in the hospital and is recovering, he had to put staples to his neck due to his injury.

According to a news release from the Regina Police Service, Chris was walking home from a friend’s house in the 1400 block of Montague St. when two men he did not recognize attacked him.

RPS says a brief altercation occurred prior to the assassination attempt. The two suspects took her phone, but not her keys, wallet or money, according to the family.

Brown believes that a stranger in a nearby home who answered Chris’s call for help is one of the reasons he’s still alive.

She says the individual stayed with him, applying pressure to his wound with a towel until an ambulance arrived.

“He lost a lot of blood and managed to get to someone’s house and knocked on the door, thanks to whoever opened that door because it saved his life,” Brown said with teary eyes.

“When he got to the hospital, they gave him a blood transfusion and they operated on him,” he added.

Brown started a GoFundMe page for Chris to help him with the additional medical costs caused by the unexpected attack, such as counseling and physical therapy, along with a new pair of glasses.

She says Chris’s glasses were broken during the incident and that it has no benefit to help him get through the recovery process.

As of Monday night, almost $ 1,400 has been raised, the page shows that a goal of raising $ 10,000 has been set.

“He is an incredible and genuine boy, as if he was the father of four children, he is a stepfather to my nephew, partner in fact, he and my sister have been together for five years,” said Brown.

“Everybody loves him, like they don’t understand why someone would do this to him,” Brown added.

Global News approached RPS for an interview about the case, but the request was denied. On Monday afternoon, RPS said there is no new information about the case to share with the public.

Although, in a statement last week, the police said that the investigation is ongoing and that the two suspects remain at large.

Police are also asking anyone who witnessed the event, or who may have information that may help the police, to contact them at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS ( 8477).
