In response to the dynamics of the economic activity of the SAC Granadas estate in Mexico City, local real estate developers purchased a greater number of Trolleybus units from the Electric Transport Service (STE). This is the first operation of its kind in the field.
When presenting the new units, the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that in order to ensure that the buses were financed with private resources, a coordination agreement was made between the Electric Transport System, the Mobility Secretariats (Semovi) and Urban Development. and Housing with real estate developers in the area.
“Today we are signing this conclusion of the SAC Granadas, the Granadas Action and Cooperation System, which, as explained by Andrés Lajous, the Secretary of Mobility, establishes support for public transport in the area for the first time as a mitigation measure. And this is very important, this is thanks, it must also be said, to the participation of businessmen in this area, to the participation of the Department of Urban Development and Housing and the Department of Mobility”, he stressed.
The head of Semovi, Andrés Lajous, explained that the agreement, which seeks to help strengthen the Chapultepec-Polanco-Azcapotzalco Corridor, is in tune with the fact that large works and urban development affect mobility, so they must be carried out mitigation measures.
“To give you an idea, daily, in the Polanco-Chapultepec area, 418 are received,000 travels; And as you know, most of the trips that are made in Mexico City are made by public transport. That is the innovation of the agreement with the SAC ‘Granadas’, which is recognizing that the impact of real estate development on mobility has primarily an effect on the needs of the city in terms of public transport”, he assured.
Rrevealed that this new operation consists of two stages, the first consisted of the acquisition of eight trolleybuses with an investment of 60 million pesos; while for the second phase it seeks to buy five trolleybuses with 40 million.
With the eight new trolleybuses from the manufacturer Yutong model 2022, he stressed, the frequency will increase from two to seven vehicles and the travel time will be reduced by 30 minutes.
They have seven security cameras each with a low floor and a 100% accessible ramp for people with disabilities; battery technology that allows autonomous circulation for up to 75 kilometers without the need for a catenary; unit capacity of 85 passengers; 50% greater energy efficiency compared to previous models; in addition to allowing comfortable trips, without noise and with good ventilation.
metropolitan connectivity
The head of Semovi explained that this measure also benefits metropolitan connectivity, since one of the points of greatest influx of the Chapultepec-Polanco-Azcapotzalco Corridor is Rosario, which connects directly with the State of Mexico.
“What is happening in El Rosario? Users arrive who can come from the north in the area of the State of Mexico to El Rosario, they get on the Trolleybus service and go to the work area that can be Polanco, it can also be Anzures or the Reforma area, because it literally reaches the CETRAM Chapultepec”.
According to the Government of Mexico City, just over 52,000 inhabitants live in the SAC Granadas, doubling its population in just 10 years. At the same time, there are just over 75,000 jobs, while in Polanco there are around 107,000 jobs.
