Reader letter: Concerned over mayor’s description of protesters

Article content

I was concerned about comments by Mayor Drew Dilkens about the protesters on Huron Church Road.

I felt for the mayor to describe some of the protesters as “mentally unstable” was not only untrue, but inflammatory and counterproductive.

He should have visited the protest himself to see that the crowd was exactly as any large public gathering in Windsor. I spent hours at the protest and all I saw were families with children, plus people of all ages being safe and respectful of each other.

I can appreciate the extremely difficult nature of the situation, however, it is during times like these that responsible leaders must speak the truth.

Leaders must foster vital communication that leads to understanding and cooperation. They must not further alienation, mistrust and division by what I believe was misinforming the public.
