An initial leaked draft majority opinion suggests the US Supreme Court is poised to overturn the Roe v. Wade legalizing abortion nationwide, Politico reported Monday.

The unprecedented leak surprised Washington. It has the potential to reshape the political landscape ahead of the US midterm elections in November.

The following is the reaction to the report:

INDEPENDENT UNITED STATES SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS:

“Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country RIGHT NOW. And if there are not 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we have to end the obstructionism to approve it with 50 votes.”

FORMER UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON:

“This decision is a direct attack on the dignity, rights and lives of women, not to mention decades of established law. It will kill and subjugate women even when the vast majority of Americans think abortion should be legal. What an absolute shame.

“The Supreme Court and the Department of Justice must get to the bottom of this leak immediately using all necessary investigative tools. Meanwhile, Roe was terribly wrong from the start and I pray that the Court will follow the Constitution and allow the states to once again protect unborn life.”
