RCMP major crime unit investigate homicide at Elizabeth Métis Settlement

RCMP are investigating the death of a man after responding to a shooting at a settlement near the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.

At about 12:30 am, Wednesday morning, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a shooting on Elizabeth Métis Settlement, approximately 280 km northeast of Edmonton, Mounties said in a Friday news release.

The victim, a 44-year-old man from the settlement, was taken to hospital where he died as a result of his injuries, RCMP added. The victim has been transported to the Edmonton medical examiner where an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Mounties said they believe this is a targeted attack and there is a threat to the public.
