The RCMP is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a church Friday in Peerless Lake, a remote community about 30 miles north of Edmonton.

Local police and fire services responded to a call about the fire on Friday morning, but once they arrived they discovered that the fire had already leveled the structure, Red Earth Creek RCMP said in a news release Monday.
No one was injured in the fire, but police believe the fire that started after 6 am is suspicious.
Provincial fire investigators are assisting in the investigation.
