Rape cases, at highest since 2015


During the first quarter of this year, 26,936 women have suffered a crime in Mexico, the vast majority (58.8%) have been victims of intentional injuries. While 234 femicides and 628 intentional homicides were registered.

According to the report on violence against women published by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), between January and March 2022, 41 women have been victims of femicide in the State of Mexico; 22 in Veracruz and 21 in Nuevo León, so these three entities are placed as the deadliest for women.

Likewise, Guanajuato (87), Michoacán (77) and Baja California (62), are positioned as the three entities with the most intentional homicides.

Regarding the month of March, at least four crimes against women registered historical maximums of criminal incidence: extortion, with 334 cases; the corruption of minors, with 193 crimes and rape, with 2,287 victims, a record number since 2015.

While the crime of intentional injuries increased 31%, in relation to the month of February.

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, announced that said institution is already preparing the elaboration of an initiative for the creation of the National Data Bank of Feminicides and Sexual Aggressors, which seeks to allow the exchange of information with the states to reduce impunity.

During the presentation of the Zero Impunity Report against Violence against Women and Girls of the Inter-institutional Group for Strategy against Violence, he explained that it is a registry of sexual aggressors and feminicides that seeks that state prosecutors have a DNA bank for forensic use. The goal is that genetic information can be used in linking evidence, and for which they will seek to convince legislators of the need to implement it.
