Rainfall Warning Issued for Lower Mainland, Snowfall Warning for Mountains – BC | The Canadian News

Residents of the Lower Continent are being warned to prepare for heavy rainfall on Saturday night as a new storm system moves into the region.

Environment Canada predicted that the rain would begin Saturday afternoon in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley and increase around midnight.

“Rain will remain heavy at times during the overnight hours and during the day on Sunday,” the national weather and climate agency said.

“Total rainfall of 50 to 70 mm can be expected before the rain decreases early Sunday evening to a few showers.”

Drivers were warned to be alert for possible local floods and to slow down, use their lights and be careful on the roads.

Meanwhile, Whistler, Squamish and the Coquihalla highway from Hope to Merritt were under snowfall warnings.

The same storm system is expected to deliver between 15 and 25 centimeters of snow to the Sea-to-Luim region.

“The rain-snow line is expected to be just above Squamish tonight and then progress beyond the Tantalus view to just south of Brandywine early Sunday,” Environment Canada said.

“Snowfall accumulations of up to 25 cm are possible between Brandywine and Whistler. Heavy snow will end on Sunday night. “

Light snow is expected to start on Saturday night at the Coquihalla and increase until Sunday for total accumulations of up to 25 centimeters.

With repairs from November’s storm still underway on the Coquihalla, drivers are advised to slow down and be extremely careful.
