Calgary Rage Against the Machine fans who have been waiting two years to hear the band are out of luck. The Los Angeles rockers have canceled the rest of their 2023 North American tour, which included stops in Calgary and Edmonton.

Fans have been on hold since May 2020 when the Public Service Announcement tour was scheduled to hit Alberta with shows in Calgary and Edmonton. The pandemic closures forced the band to postpone the tour until May 2022. But that was postponed again until March 2023.

Now, Rage Against the Machine has scrapped the rest of the tour altogether.
Lead singer Zack De La Rocha released a statement Tuesday saying a leg injury suffered three months ago at a show in Chicago not only prevents him from performing on stage but affects his life.
“I have a severe tear in my left Achilles tendon and only 8% of my tendon was left intact. And even that part was severely compromised. It’s not just about re-acting, it extends to core functionality in the future.”

De La Rocha said the band was excited to be back on the road after the two-year hiatus before this happened in July.
“Rehearsing, training, reconciling, working to get back in shape. Then one and a half shows up and my tendon tears. I felt like a joke in bad taste that the universe played on me.
“I hate canceling shows. I hate to disappoint our fans. You have all waited so patiently to see us and that never escapes me. I never take that for granted. For you I have the utmost gratitude and respect.”
