As cases continue to rise in the Kingston community, Queen’s University confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak in the student community on Friday.
“The university is working with public health to address the current situation, and with the emergence of suspected cases of the Omicron variant, as a precaution, they are strongly encouraging the following measures for students,” the school says in a press release. .
“If you’ve been in close contact with a known case for the past ten days or have any symptoms, you need to isolate yourself and get tested as soon as possible with a PCR test.”

The university urges students to avoid social gatherings, along with any non-masking interaction.
“The university has also worked closely with public health experts at KFL & A to develop protocols for the exams that are in progress,” the press release reads.
“Students who have symptoms of COVID-19 cannot enter campus and must isolate themselves and have a PCR test.”

If a student has to miss a class or exam due to symptoms or self-isolation requirements, academic consideration will be given.
The school says they are working on a plan for the rapid test kits to be available early next week.
