The spokesperson for the official opposition for the Capitale-Nationale region, Marwah Rizqy, urged the government to sign the decrees necessary for the progress of the work, and this, without conditions.

According to her, the episode of the day before illustrates a “decline of democracy”. The government has been “contemptuous, arrogant, intimidating” towards Mayor Marchand, she hammered before encouraging the mayors of Quebec “never to abandon your convictions”.

Co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire and spokesperson for the fight against climate change, Manon Massé joked about the Prime Minister’s double talk.

“François Legault tears his shirt when Ottawa comes to interfere with our skills, and he is right. But when I see him say which street corner to put the bus station on, those are the skills of the city, ”she exclaimed.

Like his Liberal colleague, PQ MP Sylvain Gaudreault also fears that this incident will set a dangerous precedent in relations between Quebec and municipalities.

The apparent honeymoon between the Legault government and Mayor Marchand was officially shattered on Wednesday.

“It is not the mayor of Quebec who is going to dictate the agenda of the council of ministers”, then repeated Minister François Bonnardel, confirming the conditions to be met before giving the green light to the realization of the tramway, whose abandonment of the shared street concept on René-Lévesque.

Bruno Marchand then made a public outing to denounce the tone of the CAQ government, which according to him is leading “an attack in good standing against the City of Quebec”.

For him, there is no question of dropping the shared streets and he will not accept “any condition” in exchange for the granting of a decree for the tramway.
