The number of hospitalizations due to the virus also continued to rise, rising by 135 for a total of 939. Of those patients, 138 are now in intensive care, an increase from 16.

Prime Minister François Legault and Health Minister Christian Dubé will hold a press conference at 5pm on Thursday, where they are expected to announce further restrictions.

After running 49,714 tests on Wednesday, the positivity rate in Quebec is now 28 percent.

The province continues to have problems at test sites, where long lines force some to be turned away. Quebec’s online reservation system was also down for part of Wednesday.

Regarding vaccination, Quebec administered 88,651 doses in the previous 24 hours. Across the province, 89% of people aged five years or older have already received one dose and 82% are twice vaccinated. Only 15 percent have received a third dose.
