Quebec announces $16.5 million for the revival of downtown Montreal

The Legault government is granting $16.5 million to the City of Montreal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal (CCMM) and the Société de développement commercial (SDC) du centre-ville de Montréal to relaunch the heart of The city.

Passing through Montreal on Thursday, the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Pierre Fitzgibbon, and the Minister responsible for the Metropolis, Chantal Rouleau, made the announcement.

More specifically, $7 million is granted to the Ville de Montréal, $6 million to the CCMM and $3.5 million to the SDC Montréal centre-ville.

The three organizations will have to submit an action plan, a progress report and a final report to the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation, all according to a pre-established schedule, in order to benefit from these sums.

Note that they come from an envelope of $50 million dedicated to the relaunch of downtown Montreal and Quebec announced during an economic update last November.

“With the return of the population to our city centers, Quebec is regaining its vitality. The new projects developed by the CCMM, the SDC Montréal centre-ville and the City of Montreal will encourage Montrealers to return to the heart of the metropolis, an important economic engine for which it is essential to reactivate activities,” indicated Minister Pierre. Fitzgibbon, in a press release.

“The additional sums entrusted to us by the Government of Quebec will make it possible to implement new initiatives and to continue mobilizing the private sector to stimulate the revitalization of the downtown area. This announcement comes at the right time, with the return to face-to-face after the slowdown caused by the Omicron variant”, underlined the president of the CCMM, Michel Leblanc.
