Pumas spins its third consecutive win after beating Tijuana 3-1

Pumas UNAM registered on Sunday its third consecutive victory in the Grita México A21 tournament after winning 3-1 to Tijuana with goal and assistance from Argentine Juan Ignacio Dinenno.

With his fourth victory of the tournament, Pumas-UNAM reached 17 points to be ranked thirteenth overall.

“Scoring a goal is what we lacked, we are a team that has a consolidated idea. We depend on ourselves, and this team is going to get ahead,” said the technical director of Pumas, Argentine Andrés Lillini.

“The team had not been doing it badly, but we lacked the goal. There we go little by little, but it will not be of any use if we do not enter the league,” he added.

Pumas scored the first goal in the 45th minute when Arturo Ortiz headed a cross from the left side.

Argentine Juan Ignacio Dinenno increased the lead for Pumas in the 47th minute when he took advantage of a defensive error and defined with a shot from outside the area that hit the right post.

Argentine Favio Álvarez scored the third in the 55th minute with a striking volley shot from a center sent by Dinenno from the right sector.

Tijuana’s “Xoloitzcuintles” discounted in the 65th minute through Vladimir Loroña, who scored after a series of rebounds inside the area.

The day will be completed later on Sunday when Atlas visits Atlético de San Luis, Santos Laguna is local against Toluca and Pachuca faces Bravos de Ciudad Juárez.

On Saturday, América secured the overall leadership of the tournament after registering its fourth consecutive win by beating Tigres UANL 1-0.

With their tenth victory of the tournament, the “Eagles”, who are already classified for the postseason, reached 34 points at the top of the general table, a place that they will no longer leave even if they lose the last two games of the regular season, and in the league they will play the second leg matches as local.

The clubs that occupy the first four places at the end of the 17 days of the regular season have direct access to the postseason or league.

The other eight teams occupying places 5 to 12 will face a single match and the four winning clubs will relocate to places 5 to 8, depending on their position in the table, to play the quarterfinals.

In the other games on Saturday, León and Necaxa won 1-0 as visitors to Puebla and Monterrey, respectively. Meanwhile, Guadalajara and the current champion Cruz Azul drew 1-1.

In the first game of the day, Mazatlán recovered from an adverse score on Friday and beat Querétaro 2-1.
