Puebla hotels expect to reach 60% occupancy in March 2022

Puebla, Pue. The hotel sector It expects to reach 60% of average occupancy, which they had before the Covid-19 pandemic, until March 2022, on the occasion of the Easter holidays, at the same time as resuming the investments of 50 new motels.

The president of the Poblana Association of Hotels and Motels, Manuel Domínguez Gabián, commented that of the 300 members at least 90 continue in the red due to lack of liquidity, which occurs because there is no sightseeing.

In spite of everything, he said, there is optimism that the economic outlook may improve, albeit slowly, but that the desired tourism arrives to reactivate, because they have been one of the most affected sectors in what has been the pandemic at the level national.

Recalled that 15 Hotels They closed between November 2020 and last February, not resisting the economic crisis, which led to the dismissal of 450 people.

However, he considered that the influx of guests, not only at this time of year-end, but outside the holiday season, is subject to the still vaccinated population respecting sanitary measures to prevent a regrowth of Covid-19.

He indicated that although there is a provision for state government that shops are not closed in case there is another spike in infections, in the case of service providers there is an impact because the tourist cancels or reschedules their visits.

Spaces

Domínguez Gambián reiterated that the opening of museums and other tourist spaces has not helped a greater number of visitors to arrive on weekends, but at least having them open is a reflection that the authority understood that they cannot continue to restrict recreational places.

“We must maintain that signal for the rest of the country regarding that in Puebla we are complying with all the health requirements to receive visitors and to help boost the economy of the tourism sector, because otherwise we will continue to stagnate ”, he deepened.

He clarified that the few earnings do not allow them to have the solvency to cover salaries and service expenses, such as gas and electricity, for which they have had to make agreements during this year with the supplier companies for special prices.

He urged the state government to carry out a promotion campaign at the national level, since the strength of the hotel sector in Puebla is foreign visits, while international visits represent 17%.
