Publisher | Junts accommodates itself in the linguistic conflict

If the Government had recognized in recent years that the constitutional and statutory framework does not allow the exclusion of Spanish as a vehicular language and had taken advantage of the fact that the Constitutional Court rulings recognized its competence to regulate how, the rulings that set a 25% of teaching in Spanish most likely could have been avoided. Establishing that each center would distribute the weight of each language according to the needs of its students could meet the demands of the courts (which set an arbitrary 25% in the absence of a response from the Government), preserve the current status of the languages (or even increase the presence of Catalan) and adjust it to the reality of each school environment. The agreement reached by ERC, PSC, Junts and ‘comuns’ it led them to what should have been the reasonable starting square. Junts’ defection disguises as an irreducible defense of the immersion model what is nothing more than electioneering calculation (being able to disdain the pactism of ERC) and irresponsible exploitation of the linguistic conflict. Just the opposite of understanding politics as an instrument to solve problems and not to feed them. Perhaps the ‘new’ Junts de Turull y Borràs could be expected to stop appearing to be a government party in the ‘conselleries’ and an opposition party outside of them. But Esquerra has a new opportunity to keep his wordinstead of letting itself be dragged along, and showing itself as a responsible, effective force that builds social agreements and not symbolic trenches.
