Public works index in Nuevo León fell -40.4% during the previous administration: Coparmex

From 2016 to 2021 the index of the value of public construction in Nuevo León it barely reached an annual average of 89.93 points, (index base 2013 = 100), indicates an analysis carried out by the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic, based on data from the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (inegi).

The annual average index of construction in the period from 2010 to 2015 was 150.86 points, in contrast, during the period from 2016 to 2021 it barely reached 89.93 points, which means that in the previous administration, public works in Nuevo León fell by -40.4 percent.

Despite this decrease, the public construction value index in the state, in both periods it exceeded the national average.

From 2010 to 2015, the average index at the national level was 120.96, while in the period from 2016 to 2021 it was 71.62 points.

Cecilia Carrillo López, director of Coparmex Nuevo Leonconsidered that the drop in public investment is worrying, and urged the state administration to give priority to this item.

Above all because New Lion this year it will have more federal resources, via participations, due to the update in the value of the population in the state.

“Nuevo León has managed to be one of the most competitive states in the country, thanks to its culture focused on effort and the investment it attracts. We cannot lose the position that Nuevo León has, so it is imperative to improve and develop the infrastructure of the state.

“The opportunity cost of losing investments is very high for our economy and society in general, there are thousands of formal jobs that arise from the investment in infrastructure made by the government,” the directive stressed.

According to data from the state government, each year more than 140,000 people from other states, as well as from other countries, come to the entity in search of job opportunities.

“That is why the importance of returning to the path of public investment, of continuing to build a Nuevo León with the necessary infrastructure that allows companies to create and grow,” he added.

According to the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Garcia Sepulvedathis year part of the 65,000 million pesos planned for the period 2022 to 2027 will be invested, since three metro lines will be added, the suburban train that will have a Public Private Partnership scheme (APP), as well as the Interserrana highway and The Colombian Glory.
