PSC, ERC and Junts complete a block renovation of the institutions before the end of the year

The PSC, ERC and JxCat are moving towards a global pact for the renewal of several of the main institutions of Catalan self-government. Sources from the three negotiating parties assure that, although names have not yet been discussed, there is an agreement to jointly address the regeneration of organizations such as the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA), the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia (CAC), is Audit Office, the Ombudsman and the Council of Statutory Guarantees. All of them have several of their members with expired terms, in some cases for more than six years.

After the first formal meeting that representatives of the majority parties held last week, contacts have continued and negotiations have been channeled with the aim of reaching an agreement before the end of the year. One of the focuses of greater informative interest is the CCMA, where a scheme has been put on the table in which the Socialists would have three of the seven members, ERC two -including the president- and JxCat another two.

According to sources of the negotiation, in the next face-to-face meeting, which will be held “in the next few days,” the parties will put names for those positions on the table, with the aim that the global pact is ready on December 23. The renewal of both the CCMA and the CAC, and the election of the new Ombudsman, must have the agreement of the three parties. Two thirds of the members of the Parliament must validate the pacts in those bodies, and that number is only reached by adding the deputies of PSC, ERC and JxCat.

“Political commitments” at the CCMA

The Socialists have been the first to publicly explain that the parties seek a bloc pact for at least those five organizations, because “it is what makes the most sense.” “After that, everything will be easier.
