The organization announced on Tuesday adjustments in its participant tables so that on March 21 the tennis players will pair up with their compatriots Renata Zarazua and Julia Olmosrespectively, in a mixed doubles match, prior to the stellar singles duel between Daniil Medvedev (number 2 in the ATP) and Andrey Rublev (number 7), recent winners of the Davis Cup.
From the beginning, Tennis Showdown was conceived with the aim of bringing to Mexico the best exponents of white sports, which is why it has focused on having two tennis players in the top 10, and also promoting Mexican tennis and promoting new players, women and men, so that they are among the best.
That is why TSD developed a youth tournament that counted 80 local tennis players, whose winners will have the opportunity to open the event that will be held in the Mexico City Arena and in which two of the 10 best tennis players in the world and the best Mexican exponents.
The representatives of this youth tournament next March will be Ángel Arias and Marat Sánchez, who will star in the first game of the day. Afterwards, Luciano Alcocer and Alfonso García Muriel are expected to compete in a doubles match against a national couple, although the organization has yet to confirm their participation. After this, the mixed doubles duel between the Mexican professionals will take place.
“We want to promote youth tennis. This effort to find how to get all these players into the day is an attempt to show that we want more Mexicans to be in the top 100 first and then in the top 10 and hopefully one day in the top 10. Young players are coming and I think the fact that Mexico, as José Luis Clerc (former Argentine tennis player) commented the other day, is now the country that is doing the most tennis shows in the world, is already having an effect,” he said at a conference in press José Escalante, president of the Organizing Committee.
