Price of electricity in Barcelona today, Monday May 9: these are the cheapest hours


The electricity price in the wholesale market (and consequently in cities like Barcelona) has picked up this monday near a twenty-one% to stand at 208.74 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), according to data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE).

After this rise, the price of electricity almost quadruples the amount you marked during the second Monday of May of the previous year (59.26 euros), and stands at a 2% above the figures for February 24, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

In the first nine days of May, the price of electricity reaches an average of 190.85 euros/MWh, close to one 32% below the value of March, the most expensive month in history with 283.3 euros/MWh, although it almost doubles the average value of 2021 (111.4 euros/MWh), the highest since records exist.
